Review - Novelista Girl by Meredith Schorr

SUMMARY
"Readers first met sassy Kimberly Long in Blogger Girl, and now the feisty New Yorker is back in a sequel packed with quick wit, friendship, heartache, and, of course, romance.

Kim runs the most popular chick lit book blog on the web, loves playing house with her sexy lawyer boyfriend, Nicholas, and is finally pursuing her life-long dream to become a published author. At first glance, her life is five-pink-champagne-flutes worthy.

But is there more to the story than meets the eye?

After hearing the phrase "chick lit is dead" more times than she's read Bridget Jones's Diary, Kim is driven to desperate measures, seeking advice from up-and-coming chick lit author, Hannah Marshak, her high school nemesis and resident "mean girl." As if Kim doesn't have enough on her plate balancing her secretarial duties with her blog Pastel is the New Black, shrugging off the growing pile of agent rejections, and keeping her best friend from turning green over Kim's budding friendship with Hannah, Nicholas is so blinded by his career ambitions, he doesn't see that their home sweet home could use more than a dash of sugar.

This is the year when all of Kim's dreams—professional and romantic—are supposed to come true, but will the story have a happily ever after or will Kim end up unpublished and all alone? This novel can be read as a sequel or as a standalone and is best accompanied by a cocktail, preferably a pink one."

MY REVIEW
I couldn't be more excited about Novelista Girl if I tried! The only thing that makes me sad is that I finished it! I secretly hope that there is a 3rd book in the series in the works!

I have said it before and I will say it again - I see some little similarities between myself and Kim and who knows, maybe that's why I love it as much as I do! I am a paralegal in a law firm in the city by day and a chick lit book blogger by night! We are also similar in that I read and work on my blog during the day as well! Shhh don't tell my boss! LOL

I am so happy that Kim and Nick are still the same perfect couple that they always were, OK, maybe perfect is the wrong word to use.  No one is perfect, but I love them just the same!

Their story take many crazy turns.  One for the books is the arrogant Daneen, yes she's still in the picture!  Will this woman ever enjoy her life and stop butting into Kim's and Nick's?  Or will she go to her grave as a bitter, single lawyer who enjoys seeing the misery she can cause at every turn?

The fun doesn't stop there!  Nickolas's father joins the fun crowd and makes his sun feel as if he will never amount to anything just because he didn't become a DOCTOR!  I mean, I know that Lawyers are scraping to make a living and all (LOL) but I am sure he will manage!

Hannah Marshak returns for an encore and is just the same as she was in Blogger girl, only shall we say nicer?  You will have to read it to believe it!

The story will have you rolling on the floor laughing, yelling at the characters when they do something stupid (which may be frequently!) and crying tears of sadness when you fear it may be coming to an end!

So take out your favorite girlie beverage and sit back and enjoy the ride!  Meredith does NOT disappoint!

WINE SELECTION
I would pair this selection with a delish Cabernet Sauvignon by Girlie Girl Wine!  Yum!
MY RATING
I give this fab sequel 5 wine glasses, I couldn't put this story down and I was sad when I came to the end!

Excerpt: Lucky for You by Jayne Denker

SUMMARY
It’s where everyone remembers your name—and your mistakes. But the quaint Catskills town of Marsden has a way of inspiring the unlikeliest reunions, flipping the script on the best laid plans, and opening even the most stubborn hearts…

Jordan Leigh’s always had a reputation for being bad news. So she figured it was only a matter of time before she got into serious trouble. But serving house arrest in her hometown of Marsden is truly cruel and unusual punishment. Plus she's under police officer Will Nash's up-close-and-all-too-personal supervision…which could make things worse—or more fun.

To make amends, Jordan throws herself into making nice with her neighbors, taking in stray animals, and helping teenage girls get back on track. But what she really wants is to get on the right track with Will. To do that, she’ll have to show him she's grown up. And if that means making him break his own rules and face down his own fears, she's up for the challenge …

EXCERPT
“I came for my cat.”

Will froze in the doorway, one hand still on the knob, as though he wasn’t sure whether to enter his own place or take off immediately. “Are you sure you weren’t arrested for breaking and entering? People usually know enough not to just walk into somebody else’s house.”

“‘House’?”

“Apartment.”

Jordan raised an eyebrow.

“I have a microwave. And a mini-fridge.”

“You should lock your door.”

“What for, besides keeping you out?”

“To keep people from getting at your gun, for one thing.”

“I keep that locked up.”

“No kidding.” Then Jordan said nothing, just let the innuendo hang there.

“I thought you’d left,” Will said after a moment.

“I did.”

“And you found out where I lived how?”

“Cam. And Gabe. They think it’s hilarious you live in the backyard, like you ran away from home and moved into the treehouse or something.”

“I suppose Cam left out the part about how he’s back in his old bedroom because Summer took back the house and threw him out.”

“Gabe liked taking him down a notch by telling that little story. I got all the dirt. Your brothers are very amusing.”

“That’s one word for them.”

“What happened after Gabe, anyway? I mean, the farther out you go on your branch of the family tree, the more nuts you find. Seriously, your DNA seems to break down with every subsequent sibling. Gabe’s the only normal one.”

“What do you want, Jordan?”

“I told you. I came for my cat.”

“Fred’s not available right now.”

Alarm flared in her belly. “Did someone call and claim him? Or did you give him away?”

“No. Nobody’s claimed him, and I wouldn’t just give him away. I mean he’s not here. He must be out doing...cat things. Hunting or whatever.”

“Oh.” Her fluttering heart calmed a little. “Well, I still need to talk to you.”

Although Will was in shadow, Jordan was pretty sure she could pinpoint the exact moment his shoulders slumped in resignation. Just a little bit.

“Fine. Do you want to go for a walk, then? Burn off some of this food?”

“No. Are you kidding? It’s friggin’ cold out there. Shut the door.” She sighed. “I swear I won’t jump you.”

Will turned on the lamp in the corner and closed the door, then crossed the room, giving Jordan as wide a berth as possible, dodging around her knees as she sat on the end of the bed, to reach another lamp. Jordan patted the duvet next to her. Instead, Will leaned against his desk, opposite the end of the bed, and crossed his arms and ankles.

“Afraid to get too close to me?” she challenged him.

“I learned my lesson.”

“Okay, obviously it’s still bugging you, so go on. Let it out.”

“Is this what you wanted to talk about?”

“No, but obviously you do.”

“So you’re not here with an explanation for why you took off without telling me? No reason why you never answered my calls and texts, when I was worried about you? And no, you know, apology, which is the acceptable thing to do in situations like this, when you kiss somebody and disappear and then reappear and act like it never happened?”

Wow. He really was still mad about that. “Okay, are you done?”

“For now. I’m leaving room for that apology. Got any of those in that giant bag of words you carry around with you at all times?”

“No, I don’t have an apology. What’s wrong with you?” Irritation transitioned into righteous indignation. Where did this guy get off expecting her to grovel—and for what? Absolutely nothing.

“What’s wrong with me? You mean I’m wrong for thinking that when we make plans to go out on a date, you’d...I don’t know...actually be there?”

Lurching to her feet, Jordan poked will right in the point of the V in his silly pullover. “That word. Right there. That’s why. A date? Why in the world would you do that?”

“Do what?”

“Pull a bait and switch. One minute you’re all over me, and the next you walk away and start planning a date, for God’s sake!”

Will pushed her jabbing finger aside. “What’s wrong with a date?”

“We had the perfect moment. That hookup would have been unbelievably awesome. And you killed it.”

“You wanted a hookup.” Will’s dark eyebrows drew together. “But not a date.”

“Yes! Why is that so hard for you to understand? God, you always overthink everything and just...kill it dead. Why couldn’t you just go with it?”

Jordan’s rant came to an abrupt halt as she stood there, panting, realizing she was way too close to him, but unwilling to step back. She didn’t dare—it would signal retreat. Besides, she didn’t want to. She just wanted to curl her arms under his and up his back to where his shoulder blades met, and pull him closer. She could blame the wine from dinner—wine always made her stupid—but she knew it wasn’t that. What she wanted, more than anything, was to go back to Halloween night and make it go the way she’d wanted it to. Hookup, like she said. Blessed, frenzied hookup. Kisses. Lips, tongues. Taste, touch. Clothes flying, skin-to-skin contact. Everything her body craved. And she knew Will’s did, too. He could act as standoffish as he wanted, but Jordan could see the heat in his eyes when he looked at her. He wanted the same thing. He’d wanted it then, and he wanted it now.

So she did just what she felt like doing—came one step closer. Wrapped herself around his solid form and waited for his arms to enclose her as well. “Just go with it,” she whispered against his mouth.

“I thought you weren’t going to jump me.”

She pecked his soft, soft lips. As nice as she remembered. “Changed my mind.”

Review - I Heart Christmas by Lindsey Kelk

SUMMARY
Angela’s planning her very own fairytale of New York…

• Enormous Christmas tree
• Eggnog
• Eccentric British traditions
• Gorgeous man

But Santa’s throwing her a few curveballs – new job (as if it’s not mental enough already), new baby-craze from her best friend Jenny, and Alex determined they should grow up and settle down. Once friends start turning up uninvited on her doorstep (and leading her astray), can Angela really have a merry little Christmas? So much for happy holidays – something’s got to give…

MY REVIEW
It's been far too long since I have read a Lindsey Kelk book!  My return to her work, I Heart Christmas, did not disappoint!  What a fun read to finish my holiday books.
Angela has always been one of my beloved characters.  I loved her in I Heart New York, I Heart Vegas just to name a few.
This poor British girl can never seem to keep herself away from drama or out of some sort of trouble!  I thought once she married Alex maybe she would settle into life and things would run more smoothly, BOY WAS I WRONG!
Angela is hoping to have the best Christmas ever in Brooklyn - but that may not be in the cards this season!
The tree was a little bit of a surprise, she has had several surprise guests and Alex has surprised her as well.
And what word has Alex brought up? The B word!  You guessed it!  BABY!  He is ready to go, but what about poor Angela?
There are twists and turns around each corner and you will love our beloved characters that join us in this fun Christmas tale - Jenny Lopez, Louisa, Alex, James and many more (oh and did I mention an evil character from her past may return, MY LIPS ARE SEALED)!
Grab a bottle of wine, sit back and enjoy this wild and crazy ride!  Lindsey does not disappoint!

DRINK SELECTION
For this wild and crazy tale, I am going with a drink that makes SEVERAL appearances, Whiskey!  Stomachs may turn but hey it's made some wild appearances in this tale!

MY RATING
I am giving wild and crazy Christmas tale 5 wine glasses for sure!  I couldn't put it down!  Must read for your TBR pile!

Review: Killing Me Softly by Kathryn Biel

SUMMARY
Sadie Perkins has a sixth sense about things—especially people dying. Her clairvoyance has never bothered her until she starts to believe that her visions are causing the deaths of those around her. After her latest relationship ends ... badly ... Sadie swears off love for good. While searching for an uncomplicated life, Sadie finds her hands full not only with a home renovation project but with defending herself against suspicion of murder. There's a fine line between predicting someone's death and causing it. Has Sadie finally crossed that line?
Enter contractor Max Schultz, who is not only good at working on houses, but he's good at working on Sadie too. Much to Max's dismay, as he's trying to win Sadie's heart, he finds Sadie's first love, Henry Fitzsimmons, is back in the picture, snooping around.
Sadie doesn't know which way to turn or who to trust, including herself. Can Sadie clear her name and open her heart all at the same time?

MY REVIEW
What a roller coaster ride for Sadie Perkins!  That poor girl!  If I were her I think I would have had a nervous breakdown by the middle of the book!
This book sucked me in right from the get go!
Let me say I never used to believe in mediums, but then I started watching Long Island Medium and I was hooked!
As for Sadie, she has dreams of what is to come and then it happens.  The downside of this ability is the fact that Sadie thinks she is causing these people's death's and unfortunate mishaps!  Talk about stress for the poor girl!
Her luck seems to be turning around, she's going on a weekend getaway with her boyfriend Rob.  Once they arrive it goes down hill...not only does he make her drive separately to meet him there (who does that?) then while there, there is an incident with a bat.  Yes you read that correctly, a bat!
Not only does he freak out, he runs from the room, packs his things and tells her he's heading home.  Now mind you, he knows she has been drinking and can't driver herself so he tells her that she can stay and leave tomorrow morning when she is able to drive.  Did that just happen?  He didn't even offer to bring her with him?
The story begins to unfold in so many crazy directions...first there is a car accident...then there is a pregnancy, then a love affair begins, an old first crush returns, followed by a disappearance...
Your mind will be going in so many directions, you won't know who to believe, who really did what and where the story is going to do next!
Sit back and enjoy this wild and crazy turn of events in Sadie's life!
