Blog Tour Stop - Girl Targeted by Val Collins

38125916

A Psychological Thriller/Suspense set in Ireland.

Office jobs can be stressful. Aoife’s may be lethal.

Aoife’s life is finally on track. She’s happily married, pregnant with her first child and has the world’s best mother-in-law. But when Aoife accepts a job as an office temp, her entire life begins to unravel.

Is one of Aoife’s colleagues a murderer? Is Aoife the next target? Why is her husband unconcerned?

Can office politics lead to murder? Girl Targeted is a perfect read for fans of Behind Closed Doors, Girl on a Train and the Silent Wife.

My Thoughts
What a crazy rollercoaster!  Around each corner is something new that will make you jump.
I'm not going to lie, if my office job was half as crazy and stressful, I would have a one way ticket out of there quicker than you can say I Quit!
Clearly this wasn't what Aoife bargained for when she left her blissful life of a stay at home mom and a happy wife.
The one thing that puzzles me though is why doesn't hubby seem to care?  Is he hiding something?  Is he in on it somehow and if so why?
If you loved Behind Closed Doors, you will LOVE Girl Targeted!

Genre: Chick Lit

A Chick Lit Lover’s Delight. Fashion may be the central theme; along with a nagging mother, but with friendships, intrigue, a villain, romance, food and laughter too.
GiGi is a woman with a mission: to help people improve the way they look, increase their self-esteem, and eventually, make them happier people. Being a personal shopper is a dark art, with few tangible rewards. Spread by word of mouth, her clients would never admit they needed her assistance. Let us be honest, who would admit to being in need of a style consultant?
The first step is to admit you need help with your wardrobe. When you have recognised that, you are on the path to recovery, and GiGi’s services will help you, despite her mother nagging that she is not doing a “real” job.
So, is it just a matter of going around and helping people buy clothes and shoes?
Not quite so. Money is tight; GiGi has to work with wealthy and eccentric people, who often do not have any idea about what they want. She and her business partner Ritchie are in a constant struggle to keep the business afloat, but as they say in Dragon’s Den, she is very investable. But, with success comes the difficulties, the Battersea Fashion Center is going to open soon, and they claim they will be fierce competitors.
With the constant struggle to keep her business afloat; a powerful enemy lining up ready to make a meal out of her, knowing well that GiGi’s approach, eventually, will make her successful. The business expands, and they take onboard new partners, making them one of the most influential fashion consultancy firms in London. But, with a very demanding job, hours spent working, will she be able to balance her career and her private life?

About Colette Kebell

Colette Kebell is an author of Chicklit, though a relatively new one and thus far has self-published her books. Her books are light-hearted, fun and quirky and even considered by some to be inspirational. She has also found avenues to translate both into Italian (thanks to her husband), and one, thus far, into French, Spanish and Portuguese via Babelcube.

As a career, Colette spent her later years as a legal secretary. After a first attempt at writing many years ago (a book that still remains in her drawer) she resumed this passion a few years back, following being made redundant. After a few book signing events and a book talk, which almost caused her to collapse with nerves, Colette now spends her time between her home in the UK and her home in France.

Colette has two adorable dogs and spends some time, when not writing and marketing her books, cooking for herself and her husband, gardening or designing various items for their home. Amongst her other hobbies, she has also experimented with furniture upholstery, and she might, from time to time, have a paintbrush in her hand.

She can be found on twitter @ColetteKebell though doesn’t tweet a vast amount.

The Status of All Things by Liz Fenton & Lisa Steinke

23492736
What would you do if you could literally rewrite your fate—on Facebook? This heartwarming and hilarious new novel from the authors of The Perfect Life follows a woman who discovers she can change her life through online status updates.

Kate is a thirty-five-year-old woman who is obsessed with social media. So when her fiancé, Max, breaks things off at their rehearsal dinner—to be with Kate’s close friend and coworker, no less—she goes straight to Facebook to share it with the world. But something’s changed. Suddenly, Kate’s real life starts to mirror whatever she writes in her Facebook status. With all the power at her fingertips, and heartbroken and confused over why Max left her, Kate goes back in time to rewrite their history.

Kate's two best friends, Jules and Liam, are the only ones who know the truth. In order to convince them she’s really time traveled, Kate offers to use her Facebook status to help improve their lives. But her attempts to help them don’t go exactly as planned, and every effort to get Max back seems to only backfire, causing Kate to wonder if it’s really possible to change her fate.

In The Status of All Things, Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke combine the humor and heart of Sarah Pekkanen and Jennifer Weiner while exploring the pitfalls of posting your entire life on the Internet. They raise the questions: What if you could create your picture-perfect life? Would you be happy? Would you still be you? For anyone who’s ever attempted—or failed—to be their perfect self online, this is a story of wisdom and wit that will leave you with new appreciation for the true status of your life.

My Thoughts
I can't believe that I didn't find this book sooner!  I picked it up on a bargain table because I LOVE all things Liz and Lisa and BAM I fell in love.
Status and Facebook are not safe.  I mean you can write whatever your little heart desires and that could truly change the outcome of some situations.
You know that you have those friends who look like they have the perfect life, WRONG, it's a lie.  They just don't have the courage to show you the bad stuff too!
When I was younger my status was important, not I barely use it anymore.  I don't need to share it with the world!
Poor Kate thought she had the perfect life - her job, fiancé, friends, you name it.  And she shared every one of those moments with the world, you got it, via Facebook.  Then her life turns in a direction she's not ready for and she re-write's her status and BAM she goes back in time to re-write the past to create the future that she wants now!
Is that the right way to fix her problems?  To erase it like it never happened?  Kate finds out that things aren't always that easy.  Will she continue down that path or will she go back and accept the things that happened for what they are?
Grab this book and dive in!  You will LOVE it!

The Stolen Marriage by Diane Chamberlain

33574127

In 1944, twenty-three-year-old Tess DeMello abruptly ends her engagement to the love of her life when she marries a mysterious stranger and moves to Hickory, North Carolina, a small town struggling with racial tension and the hardships imposed by World War II. Tess’s new husband, Henry Kraft, is a secretive man who often stays out all night, hides money from his new wife, and shows no interest in making love. Tess quickly realizes she’s trapped in a strange and loveless marriage with no way out.

The people of Hickory love and respect Henry and see Tess as an outsider, treating her with suspicion and disdain, especially after one of the town’s prominent citizens dies in a terrible accident and Tess is blamed. Tess suspects people are talking about her, plotting behind her back, and following her as she walks around town. What does everyone know about Henry that she does not? Feeling alone and adrift, Tess turns to the one person who seems to understand her, a local medium who gives her hope but seems to know more than he’s letting on.

When a sudden polio epidemic strikes the town, the townspeople band together to build a polio hospital. Tess, who has a nursing degree, bucks Henry’s wishes and begins to work at the hospital, finding meaning in nursing the young victims. Yet at home, Henry’s actions grow more alarming by the day. As Tess works to save the lives of her patients, can she untangle her husband’s mysterious behavior and save her own life?

My Thoughts
What a great read!  I honestly can say that I haven't found a book of Diane's that I don't love!  Amazing writing, great attention to detail, the ability for me to learn something, LOVE it!
This book takes place in 1944 (LOVE historical fiction) with Tess being madly in love with Vincent, the boy next store whom she grew up with.  She is waiting till marriage and has stuck to that until one night...
Her girlfriend tells her to come with her to DC for the night to get away and stay at her aunt's place.  Little did she know she would be staying in the same home with two men, one of which is Henry Kraft.  They went to dinner, drinks were flowing and one thing led to another and she slept with Henry.
Tess is stressing over this and then she gets news...news that she didn't want to hear and would ignore if she could.  Will she be able to face Vincent with this event?
Tess does the only thing she can do and that's run away and start over.  The first person she turns to is Henry himself...
Without giving many details away this book tests human strength, relationships, health (polio epidemic), love and communication of the truth no matter the cost.
I am recommending this book to everyone I speak to.  You won't be able to put it down.

Sweet Tea and Sympathy by Molly Harper

Beloved author Molly Harper launches a brand-new contemporary romance series, Southern Eclectic, with this story of a big-city party planner who finds true love in a small Georgia town.

Nestled on the shore of Lake Sackett, Georgia is the McCready Family Funeral Home and Bait Shop. (What, you have a problem with one-stop shopping?) Two McCready brothers started two separate businesses in the same building back in 1928, and now it’s become one big family affair. And true to form in small Southern towns, family business becomes everybody’s business.

Margot Cary has spent her life immersed in everything Lake Sackett is not. As an elite event planner, Margot’s rubbed elbows with the cream of Chicago society, and made elegance and glamour her business. She’s riding high until one event goes tragically, spectacularly wrong. Now she’s blackballed by the gala set and in dire need of a fresh start—and apparently the McCreadys are in need of an event planner with a tarnished reputation.

As Margot finds her footing in a town where everybody knows not only your name, but what you had for dinner last Saturday night and what you’ll wear to church on Sunday morning, she grudgingly has to admit that there are some things Lake Sackett does better than Chicago—including the dating prospects. Elementary school principal Kyle Archer is a fellow fish-out-of-water who volunteers to show Margot the picture-postcard side of Southern living. The two of them hit it off, but not everybody is happy to see an outsider snapping up one of the town's most eligible gentleman. Will Margot reel in her handsome fish, or will she have to release her latest catch?

My Thoughts
What a fun read!  I devoured every page and want more!  I love all things southern and romance and this book was a perfect combination.
Can I just say how much I LOVE this cover!  So pretty!
As far as the writing, Molly has an amazing writing style that flows from beginning to end.  She knows how to intertwine the characters and develop fun story lines.
Margot has been a big city girl in Chi town most of her life.  She was raised by her mother and never really knew anything of her father or his side of the family except that they were down south.
Poor Margot's life has taken a downward turn after the party she was planning went horribly wrong.  The food could have killed the guest of honor (hello allergic!) and the birds were out of control and cost her the career she has worked for and the contacts she had made.  What is she going to do now?
Then she gets a call from...Tootie.  Her Grandmother on her father's side.  She wants to offer her a job at the family funeral home (say what?) and a roof over her head.  Has this what Margot's life has come to?  What else is she going to do?
So she packs her bags and heads to Lake Sackett!  Hold on for a wild ride, from a pack of dogs tackling her to meeting her father and of course the drop dead mysterious man she keeps running into!  Perfect book to start my new year off right!

Blog Tour Stop - One Way Ticket by Kate O'Keefe and Melissa Bauldwin - Exceprt

Would you switch lives with someone you just met? Sabrina Monroe is poised and ready for her future as Mrs. Todd Edward Blakely. Everything seems perfect, but on the big day, suddenly she's not so sure. Her nicely mapped out life ahead of her, she finds herself in her own movie scene as the runaway bride, climbing out of the bathroom window. All she can think is escape. Addison Bloom needs a life makeover. She's travelled the world to find love--and failed. On her way back from yet another friend's wedding, she starts to feel ill at the mere thought of seeing another veil that's not hers. Should she go back home and marry her former sweetheart, or stick it out looking for love in her new home? Sabrina and Addison are both on the run, wanting to escape to a new life. As the two strangers talk at an airport, discovering they have the same job at opposite ends of the country, a crazy idea unfolds--one which might provide the answers they've both been looking for. Is there such a thing as a One Way Ticket to a new life, or will they find they're running from themselves, not just the past?

Excerpt

I don’t understand why Addison isn’t back yet?” Mrs. Watson bristled. “There’s
something fishy going on here that you’re not telling me. If I didn’t know better, I would
guess Addison was in some kind of trouble.” She folded her arms tightly across her chest.
I could tell she was trying to intimidate Isabella into giving her information—and I
was glad to see it wasn’t working.
“Good morning, Mrs. Watson,” I said, interrupting the intense stare down she was
giving Isabella.
Mrs. Watson gave me a side-glance. “Are you still running this shop?”
Was this woman for real?
She acted like she was shocked to see me, which was completely ridiculous. We’d
had several conversations since I had taken over Blooms. I’ve now done a few different
floral orders for her, and each time I’d felt extremely relieved she didn’t complain.
Maybe she was looking for something to complain about?
I got the feeling Addison spent quite a lot of time coddling her, and Mrs. Watson
obviously enjoyed the attention.
“Yes, I am,” I replied, jutting out my chin in defiance.
She narrowed her eyes at me. Her platinum blonde hair was teased extra high today,
and her choice of outfit didn’t disappoint. She was wearing a peacock feather print jacket
along with peacock blue polyester pants. I tried to drag my gaze away from her . . . err
“creative” ensemble.
“Hmm . . . I’m starting to think I should notify the authorities. Addison wouldn’t
leave her shop this long unless something bad had happened.”
What is she talking about?
“Mrs. Watson, as I’ve told you before, Addison is fine. You don’t need to be
concerned about her. I’m more than happy to assist you with anything you need.”
Isabella opened her laptop, causing a horrified gasp to escape from Mrs. Watson’s
mouth. I noticed her clench her fists as she stared at the innocent electronic device. I
knew she thought computers were “the devil,” but what exactly did she think was going
to happen?
Maybe she expected an alien to reach out and drag her into the screen?
“Why don’t you come with me and we can review your order for this week?” I
suggested, steering her away from where Isabella sat, typing away on the keyboard.
Isabella obviously had no problem passing the high-maintenance woman off to me.
After several minutes of reassuring Mrs. Watson that Addison hadn’t been abducted
by aliens, been murdered, or run away with a convicted felon, I was able to review her
floral order. She did mention that Faye Stanley had been using Fuchsia Flowers and Gifts
for all her floral-design needs but that she was staying loyal to Blooms—for now.
I still had no idea who this infamous Faye Stanley was. I assumed she was Mrs.
Watson’s friend, but probably more along the lines of the women my mother associated
with. In other words, they pretended to like each other but gossiped about the other
behind one another’s backs.
When she finally left the shop, I let out a huge sigh. I had plenty of experience
dealing with difficult customers, but they were at my shop. This was Addi’s shop, and I
would feel terrible if I was the cause of her losing an important customer.

Scrappy Little Nobody by Anna Kendrick

A collection of humorous autobiographical essays by the Academy Award-nominated actress and star of Up in the Air and Pitch Perfect.

Even before she made a name for herself on the silver screen starring in films like Pitch Perfect, Up in the Air, Twilight, and Into the Woods, Anna Kendrick was unusually small, weird, and “10 percent defiant.”

At the ripe age of thirteen, she had already resolved to “keep the crazy inside my head where it belonged. Forever. But here’s the thing about crazy: It. Wants. Out.” In Scrappy Little Nobody, she invites readers inside her brain, sharing extraordinary and charmingly ordinary stories with candor and winningly wry observations.

With her razor-sharp wit, Anna recounts the absurdities she’s experienced on her way to and from the heart of pop culture as only she can—from her unusual path to the performing arts (Vanilla Ice and baggy neon pants may have played a role) to her double life as a middle-school student who also starred on Broadway to her initial “dating experiments” (including only liking boys who didn’t like her back) to reviewing a binder full of butt doubles to her struggle to live like an adult woman instead of a perpetual “man-child.”

Enter Anna’s world and follow her rise from “scrappy little nobody” to somebody who dazzles on the stage, the screen, and now the page—with an electric, singular voice, at once familiar and surprising, sharp and sweet, funny and serious (well, not that serious).

My Thoughts
What a fun read!  I have always thought Anna Kendrick was funny, and this book is totally her!  I love when I'm reading a book and I can actually "hear" the author's voice while reading the words.
She talks about everything from her early years of growing up to when she broke into showbiz.  I never knew that she was on Broadway before movies!
She doesn't hold anything back and she tells it like it is whether you like it or not.
She loves to talk about her small size and how much of a big deal the industry has made it along the way. Crazy!
From her discussion on her likeness to a "man-child" to her trip to Buccaneer Day - you will laugh out loud throughout this entire book - guaranteed!

Drink Selection
I am going to go with a yummy drink any pirate would love, tequila with pineapple juice and a pineapple wedge for garnishment!

The Child Finder by Rene Denfeld

Three years ago, Madison Culver disappeared when her family was choosing a Christmas tree in Oregon’s Skookum National Forest. She would be eight years old now—if she has survived. Desperate to find their beloved daughter, certain someone took her, the Culvers turn to Naomi, a private investigator with an uncanny talent for locating the lost and missing. Known to the police and a select group of parents as "the Child Finder," Naomi is their last hope.

Naomi’s methodical search takes her deep into the icy, mysterious forest in the Pacific Northwest, and into her own fragmented past. She understands children like Madison because once upon a time, she was a lost girl too.

As Naomi relentlessly pursues and slowly uncovers the truth behind Madison’s disappearance, shards of a dark dream pierce the defenses that have protected her, reminding her of a terrible loss she feels but cannot remember. If she finds Madison, will Naomi ultimately unlock the secrets of her own life?

My Thoughts
Such a thought provoking read...It really made me evaluate myself and what I would do if this happened to me and if my child was taken and not found for months or years on end.
Some parts of the book are hard to read, now I don't mean bad writing, I mean the content can be heavy and dark.
The thought of Madison getting lost when he parents were Christmas tree hunting.  How is that possible?  A lost little girl in a bright pink coat.
She was lost at age 5 and if she survived, IF, she would be 8 now...
Her parents couldn't accept that she was dead, they hired The Child Finder, Naomi, to help find their little girl.  Naomi doesn't sugar coat things, she was sure to tell them, she may be dead and IF she has survived she will not be the same little girl they lost 3 year prior.  Could they handle that?
While trying to find little Madison, Naomi is trying to find out more about herself and what happened to her in her trauma filled past that she has blocked out to date.
Will Naomi find Madison?  Will Naomi find herself?  Can she survive knowing what happened to her?

Drink Selection
Because most of this book takes place in the freezing cold, snow covered woods, I am going to pair this read with a Hot Toddy - delish!

This book pulled me in from beginning to end and really had me thinking at time.  5 wine glasses for sure!
