Happy Pub Day - Stardust in Dixie by Beth Albright

SUMMARY

Abigail Harper Cartwright was coming undone. As the promotions director for a Tuscaloosa radio station, a huge upcoming Mother’s Day live event could make or break her career. But at the same time, two former lovers have stumbled back into the picture turning her life upside down.

One old boyfriend – who works for a competing radio station, seems to be out to sabotage everything she does, while another may just be her knight in shining armor. But after being dumped during a very public marriage proposal, he may not be able to give Abby a second chance.

To make matters worse, a nosey neighbor has started an epic turf war and azalea bushes, a stolen mailbox and some front porch graffiti are the result.

As event day draws near, the dirty tricks at work get more intense and Abby has to call on her sassy sisters to help get to the bottom of it.

And Abby’s new/old love has another love of his own – a three year old thoroughbred horse whose name holds the secret to some long harbored feelings.

It all culminates in some Derby Day and Mother’s Day fireworks that will get your heart pounding and tears flowing.

National best-selling author Beth Albright does it again with this new Southern page-turner with romantic comedy, emotion, passion and laugh-out-loud humor.  Grab your best girlfriends and hang on tight for this hilarious, exciting, sassy, southern tale.

Review - What Happens in the Alps by T.A. Williams

SUMMARY
UP IN THE MAGICAL, SNOW-KISSED MOUNTAINS…
Two years ago, Annie Brewer’s life was turned upside down when her adrenaline-junkie husband died in a tragic climbing accident. So she’s hoping that moving to the beautiful village of Santorso in the Italian Alps will finally put her life back on track!
…ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN!
She might be going into business with her oldest friend – notorious lady-charmer Matt Brown – but men are definitely out of the question for Annie! That is, until she bumps into tall, dark and delicious Alessandro Lago on the ski slopes…and spontaneously says ‘Yes’ to a date!
It must be the crisp, mountain air but suddenly, anything seems possible. The only trouble is, chivalrous Matt is looking more gorgeous than ever…
MY REVIEW
T.A. does not disappoint with this next installment of his What Happens series!  I seem to enjoy each book a little more than the last each time I read a new one.
Annie is such an amazing your woman, she has made it through so much yet she is determined to make the most of the situation and live her life to the fullest.  Nothing is going to get her down.  She lost her husband Steve to a freak climbing accident a few years back.  She is trying to get her life back and make a name for herself and start a business so as to take care of herself.
Annie is starting a school in Santorso - a village in the Italian Alps - teaching English to locals.  This is her way to start over and be happy in the new life that was handed to her.
As luck would have it, who does she run into?  Matt, her late husbands best friend.  They were climbing buddies that went way back.  Matt was always like a brother to her and would o anything for her.  He moved to Florence some time back and this is the first she has seen him in a bit.  Do sparks fly when they catch up?  Why does he decide to move back to Turin after being gone for so long?
As the days are going by Annie meets, a gorgeous Italian man, Alex and she cant help but fall for those baby blue eyes.  Sparks fly, is Annie ready to fall in love again?  Could this Italian ladies man be the one to sweep her off her feet?
Twists and turns through the Italian Alps will have you wandering what will happen one page to the next.  There is some intrigue  and love and maybe even a little lust to pull you in.
WINE SELECTION
I will be pairing What Happens in the Alps with a fine deep red wine - Brunello di Montalcino!
MY RATING
I am giving this romance in the Italian Alps 5 glasses of wine - I enjoyed each and every page and I couldn't wait to see what was around the next slope turn!

Review - Mommywood by Tori Spelling

SUMMARY
If you thought Tinseltown was tough...

Tori Spelling might have grown up with everything a girl could wish for, but these days she's just another suburban working mom...whose toddler regularly recognizes her in the pages of Us Weekly. Welcome to Mommywood, where the stars are two feet tall and your neighbors know who you are before you move in.
Like most parents, Tori wants her children to have the one thing she didn't have as a kid -- a normal family. On their hit Oxygen reality show, Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood, the starlet and her husband Dean McDermott regularly wrestle dirty diapers, host the neighborhood block party, and tackle temper tantrums on the red carpet. But when the cameras aren't rolling, Tori's still having awkward run-ins with a former 90210 costar at a laser tag birthday party, scooping rogue poo out of the kiddie pool on a resort vacation, and racing to win back her pre-baby body before the media starts calling her fat. For all her suburban fantasies, Tori Spelling is no June Cleaver.
With the same down-to-earth wit that made her entertaining memoir sTORI telling a #1 New York Times bestseller, Tori tells the hilarious and humbling stories of life as a mom in the limelight. From learning to be the kind of parent her own mother never was to revealing what it's like to raise a family while everyone is watching, Mommywood is an irresistible snapshot of celebrity parenthood that you won't get from the paparazzi.
MY REVIEW
I have always loved to watch Tori Spelling on 90210 and I loved her on Tori and Dean as well.  I saw this book not too long ago and thought, this will be a fun read one day.  So about a week ago I picked it up and I couldn't put it down.  I have started to see another side to Tori that you don't get from the bright lights of Hollywood and the magazine covers and her TV show.  I mean we all have a hard time believing that "reality tv" is truly reality.  But for Tori and Dean what you see is what you get.  She wants to show us that there is more to her life than Hollywood.  She is a mother, a wife and a best friend just like the rest of us.  She just does it under the watchful eye of Hollywood and the paparazzi.
Tori is married to Dean McDermott and are ready to start a family.  Tori wants to move to the suburbs, live on a normal street and raise her child like any other mom in America.  Then their wished start to come true.  Tori becomes pregnant with their first child together.  His is name is Liam and he is the perfect baby.  They can take him to dinner, to parties, charity events and life is a dream.  Or so they thought.
Then Tori begins to panic - Liam seems to be more attached to Dean than her.  Is their something wrong with her?  Is she not meant to be a mother?  They see her therapist and they try to work through these issues little by little.

Then there is the hilarious incident with the poo in the pool (Tori will have you laughing uncontrollably when you read this), Liam's love for OK! and so many other fun stories.
Who wants to live in Hollywood (um maybe me?) when you can live on Beaver Street?  Tori decides that she wants to live in a normal house, on a normal street and have normal neighbors and friends.  So they move to Beaver Street.  Things aren't as easy as Tori had hoped they would be - the neighbors are always watching them, the paparazzi are able to get to her whenever they see fit, and they can't even fit in at the neighborhood street party.  What's a girl to do?  Will they ever accept her?  Will this be their forever home or is there another move in store?
Then surprise, along comes baby number 2 - Stella!  She was finally having a girl!  A part of her has been dreading this all her life, she didn't want to have the same relationship with her that she had with her own other (look at how well that turned out).  She also fears that Stella will grow to prefer Dean over her as well.
This book is packed with fun outtakes of her life - from meeting her Gay friends,  days out with Liam and Stella, thoughts of purchasing a new home, outrageous birthday parties for her kids and celebrities - it's a guilty pleasure that you won't be able to put down!
I can't wait to read more of her books and I really enjoyed "meeting" this Tori and seeing that she really is a down to earth mom with a little Hollywood on the side.  What a fun read, you will not be disappointed.
WINE SELECTION
I would pair this fun book with a glass of White Cat Wine - what a great combination!
MY RATING
I give Mommywood - 4 wine glasses!  It was an easy read that was fun and has me wanting to read more books by Tori in the near future!  Enjoy!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Firstly, my name isn't T A. It's Trevor. I write under the androgynous name T A Williams because 65% of books are read by women. In my first book, "Dirty Minds" one of the (female) characters suggests the imbalance is due to the fact that men spend too much time getting drunk and watching football. I couldn't possibly comment. Ask my wife...
I've written all sorts: thrillers, historical novels, short stories and now I'm enjoying myself hugely writing humour and romance. Romantic comedies are what we all need from time to time. Life isn’t always very fair. It isn’t always a lot of fun, but when it is, we need to embrace it. If my books can put a smile on your face and maybe give your heartstrings a tug, then I know I’ve done my job.
I‘ve lived all over Europe, but now I live in a little village in sleepy Devon, tucked away in south west England. I love the place. That’s why you’ll find leafy lanes and thatched cottages in most of my books. Oh, yes, and a black Labrador.
I've been writing since I was 14 and that is half a century ago. However, underneath this bald, wrinkly exterior, there beats the heart of a youngster. My wife is convinced I will never grow up. I hope she's right.

Blog Tour: Guest Post and Giveaway for Natalie's Getting Married by Rosa Temple

Guest Post:
A Guide To Being The Perfect Wedding Crasher
Rosa Temple

If there are two things in life that bring out the big cheesy grin and the tear to the corner of my eye, it’s a new born baby and a wedding. I just love those ‘aww’ moments. We’ve had a couple of new babies in the family but it’s been a long time since there was a wedding. More couples tend to live together rather than get hitched which is pretty selfish of them.

It’s been ages since I got all dressed up, shared in someone’s life changing moment, ate wedding cake and cried over someone’s first dance song. I know, I’m just a big old romantic.
But then it got me thinking – what if I gatecrashed a wedding? Would I get away with it? Would I get that ‘aww’ moment I’ve been missing so much? Or would I just get asked to leave before my first sip of champagne.

It was time to do some planning in the event of my never being invited to a wedding again. And here are my findings:

1.    Choose your season. Would you look better at a spring wedding or a summer one? Remember winter weddings require more clothing making them less handy in case you have to beat a hasty retreat if someone realises you’re not an actual guest.
2.    Don’t get a bigger hat than anyone else. Hats cause a commotion and people will be asking where you got yours and before you know it someone will be asking who you are, and if you haven’t prepared a script, you could be asked to leave.
3.    Turn up with a large present. Who’s going to suspect you of not being invited when you are so blatantly generous?
4.    Answer questions with a question. If someone asks you, ‘who do you know, the bride or groom?’ you throw that back at them. If they say ‘bride’ you say ‘groom’. Got it?
5.    Don’t be tempted into causing a scandal with the groom, no matter how hot he looks in a top hat. You’re only passing through and you’ll be surprised how quickly rumours spread.
6.    Arrive late at the church so you are not asked by an usher which side of the church you want to sit. Duck around the side and up towards the front to get a good view.
7.    Don’t be tempted to be in the pictures.
8.    Do not, under any circumstances, dance with a main member of the wedding party. No matter how persuasive the father of the bride can be, brides fathers are notoriously bad dancers. His awful dancing will draw attention and you’re bound to get found out.
9.    Don’t be the one crying loudest at the ceremony. In fact don’t make any noises that will have people pointing a finger at you.
10.    Lastly, dispel every urge to turn up in a long white dress. That’s basic wedding etiquette and if you break that rule, then none of the above will help you.
Failing all of the above, if you’re looking for an ‘aww’ moment at a wedding, you could just read Natalie’s Getting Married. There are four weddings in this novel and hopefully one of them will make you go, ‘aww’.

Blog Tour: Excerpt and Giveaway for Holding Out For A Hero by Victoria Van Tiem

 EXCERPT:
                                                                                                              Prologue
My birthday hangs over my head like a noose.
I’d rather just skip it and take the day off. I’m like Cameron in Ferris Bueller: overwhelmed, wound up and seriously pessimistic about the whole idea. Ollie, my best friend's older brother and I used to debate this movie non-stop when we were teenagers. He swore the entire day was a delusion created by the very sick and depressed Cameron.
‘It’s a crazy theory that’s been floating around, but I stand behind it,’ he’d say with absolute certainty. Oliver liked nothing better than to argue.
I liked nothing better than to wind him up. ‘Sure, he was miserable and the timeline of events impossible, but it doesn’t prove Ferris was a figment of Cameron’s imagination. Was everyone fake? And why would he do that?’
I could hear him pacing, and imagined him at the other end of the line, wide-eyed and gesturing. I loved it when he got that way. I loved everything about him.
‘They’re real, Libby, just not in the context of Cameron’s fantasy. He created Ferris, or at least that version of him, because he had to. He needed a hero.’
Right now, I need a hero. Seriously: where’s my white knight upon a fiery steed? He doesn’t need to be strong, fast, or fresh from the fight, he just needs to be larger than life and capable of saving mine. It’s a mess. But there’s no way I could’ve predicted the position I find myself in right now.
No one could.

Review - Some Women by Emily Liebert

SUMMARY
An engrossing and thought provoking novel that examines the intricacies of marriage, friendship, and the power of unexpected connections…

Annabel Ford has everything under control, devoting her time to her twin five-year-old boys and to keeping her household running seamlessly. So when her husband of a decade announces that he’s leaving her, without warning, she’s blindsided. And suddenly her world begins to unravel.

Single mother Piper Whitley has always done her best to balance it all—raising her daughter Fern by herself and advancing her career as a crime reporter. Only now that she’s finally met the man of her dreams, Fern’s absentee father arrives on the scene and throws everything into a tailspin.

Married to the heir of a thriving media conglomerate, Mackenzie Mead has many reasons to count her blessings. But with an imperious mother-in-law—who’s also her boss—and a husband with whom she can no longer seem to connect, something has to give.

On the surface, these three women may not have much in common. Yet when their lives are thrust together and unlikely friendships are formed—at a time when they all need someone to lean on—Annabel, Piper, and Mackenzie band together to help each navigate their new realities.

MY THOUGHTS
Hands down this is one of my Top Picks for 2016.  I picked this book up just a few days back and I have not been able to put it down ( I have been able to do a lot of reading at work as well, shhhh LOL).

There are so many important topics that are raised through out the walls of each page - unexpected friendship, parenthood, intimate relationships, marriage, trust and those are just a few of the many.

I think I have a bond with each of these main characters in different ways.  Annabel is a mother that had always been perfect, to the point that it started to drive a wedge between her and her family.  I tend to have that issue from time to time.  I am a mother and I know what needs to be done and sometimes that is all that is on my mind and I forget that sometimes you just need to go with the flow.  It will all get done in time.

Piper and I had a special bond - she is a single mom and does everything on her own with very little help.  She has been the provider for her daughter for many years.  She has met an amazing man, Todd, who wants desperately to be her rock and take care of her and Fern.  I have been a provider for my 3 children for many years, yes I have help but I do a lot of it on my own and I am venturing into the dating world and hope to find someone like Todd.

Mackenzie is the girl that I have always wanted to be.  She is strong, smart, caring, brutally honest and a true fighter for herself and her friends.  I look up to her in so many ways and I see a piece of her in myself!

It's hard to believe that these women have not been friends for years!  It was fate that has brought them together and it is a special bond that will keep them friends for life.  Through their many ups and downs they always had each others back and were the only people each could turn to in times of need.

I couldn't recommend this book more highly if I tried.  I am deeply saddened that it is done but I am glad that I had a chance to enjoy each and every page.

DRINK SELECTION
I would pair this book with a nice glass of champagne!  These women have been through some tough times, but in the end they can truly celebrate their amazing friendships!  Cheers!
RATING
Hands down I wouldn't rate this book anything other than 5 wine glasses!  It is worth every last drop!
