BLOG TOUR TIME! - Q & A with Kathryn R. Biel, author of Completions and Connections

On this rather warm Friday morning in Upstate New York, I have the pleasure of chatting with Kathryn Biel, the Author of Completions and Connections!
If you haven't had the chance to read this fun holiday short story, then you should!  It's a perfect holiday read!
Thank you for taking the time to stop by One Book at a time today!

Kathryn, I want to begin by saying, what a fun Christmas story to get the season going, do you have plans to continue Christine and Patrick's budding romance in an upcoming book?

Sort of, sort of not. While writing this, I began to think about Michele and what’s going on in her life. She’s going to get her own book, so you’ll find out what happens with Christine and Patrick then.
-I can't wait to hear more about this!

What tradition are you most looking forward to this holiday season?

My mom, brother, and I go out Black Friday shopping. We go out about 5 am. I get my first peppermint mocha of the season then. By about 10 am, we’re ready for our second meal of the day. I usually get ice cream.
-WOW, that sounds like a blast!  Believe it or not my 11 year old son Alexander loves to go black Friday shopping with me and has been 2 years straight!

Do you have a new book you are currently writing?  Any details to share with your fans?
I was working on a book when the need to write Completions and Connections took over. I’m getting back to it and hope to finish it by Christmas. It’s a dramatic story where two broken people try to make each other whole again.
-Sounds amazing!

When you aren't writing, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Free time? I’m unfamiliar with that concept. I work full time as a school-based physical therapist. My kids and husband keep me busy. I do carve out a few hours a week for dance class. I’ve been with the same studio since I was five. They are my second family.
- I used to dance!  I have been trying to add Yoga in my free time, but with three kids, work and part-time grad school that isn't happening. LOL.

Lastly, what is your favorite genre to read in your spare time?
It really depends on my mood. I read a lot of chick lit and romance. I like things that are an escape for me.

-I couldn't agree more!

Q & A with the Lovely Elle Fields!

On this fall Monday morning here in upstate NY, I have the pleasure of talking to the lovely Elle Fields, the Author of Geli Voyante's HOT OR NOT!

If your haven't already had the chance to read this amazing story, you must!  You will not be disappointed!
Elle, THANK YOU for taking the time out of your busy schedule to chat with me at One Book at a time!

Elle, I want to begin by asking, Where did you get your inspiration for GELI VOYANTE’S HOT OR NOT?

My inspiration came from seeing an engagement announcement on Facebook. The engagement announcement belonged to a girl who had always, oddly, acted like I was her biggest rival - she competed with whatever I was up to which was a shame as, that aside, she was a nice person. But, this rivalry is what inspired the characters of Geli and Tiggy, two "friends" who compete in all that they do. I'm sort of thankful for her behaviour now!

I LOVE to ask this next question, if you were to get the opportunity to make this book into a movie - what actors and actresses do you see fitting into the roles?
Great question! I could totally see Emilia Clarke playing Geli, with Leighton Meester playing her arch-nemesis Tiggy. They would portray the rivalry between those two characters perfectly! The actor to play Theo - he's Geli's colleague and she has a big crush on him - would have to be someone a little bit dreamy but also a little bit evil. I think Joe Manganiello would be perfect!

Do you have any new ideas or new books in the works that you would like to share with your friends?

I'm currently working on Found, which is the third book in my Arielle Lockley series.

I'm sure writing takes up a good chunk of your day, when your not busy writing away, what do you like to do for fun?

I love exploring London, which is where I live, and also taking trips overseas to discover new places. I'm also a bit of a foodie, love watching musicals on the West End, and am a voracious reader.

Lastly. do you enjoy doing blog tours?  Are there parts that you may enjoy more than others?
Blog tours are so much fun, and I love finding out what people think of my books as well as sharing guest posts and answering questions on blogs.

Author Bio:

Elle Field lives in London with her boyfriend and their cat. She's a massive fan of sunshine, giraffes, The Killers, Audrey Hepburn movies, playing Scrabble and tea. Oh, and reading, of course!

BLOG TOUR TIME! - Guest Post Today with TA Williams, author of What Happens at Christmas...

Why my lead characters have got (metaphorical) balls

I’ve been writing for years. I write all sorts, from historical novels to thrillers and, more recently, Romcoms, aka Women’s Fiction, aka Chick Lit. My main characters are women, so do I know enough about the opposite sex to make my heroines credible and sympathetic to my readers? The way I look at it is this: we writers have to draw upon our imagination as far as the plot is concerned, so why not use this same imagination to think ourselves into the heads of our readers?

And why write for women anyway? That’s easy; it makes good business sense. You lot read more than the male of the species. One of the characters in my first book, Dirty Minds, suggests this might be because men spend too much time watching soccer and drinking beer. I couldn’t possibly comment, but I do know that I’ve been glued to the Rugby World Cup on TV over the past few weeks.

My latest book, What Happens at Christmas… is written from the point of view of Holly, the main protagonist. She isn’t a clueless little thing, desperately on the lookout for a man to support her and look after her. Very much the opposite. She’s her own woman with a successful career and high standards. Her interest in men up till now has tended to wane as she approaches the third date with any one individual. They just don’t match up to her ideal and she isn’t going to settle for any less. She knows what she wants and she certainly isn’t stereotypical. After all, her hobby is car mechanics and the love of her life, at least at the start of the book, is a thirty year old sports car.

In one of my earlier books, When Alice Met Danny, the eponymous heroine, Alice, loses her job. This is the job she has lived and breathed for seventeen years. But does she sit down and cry about it? No, she sets about creating a whole new life for herself far away from London, far away from the cutthroat financial world where she used to work. She casts off her old life and makes a new start. I don’t know about you, but there have been times in my life when the idea of pressing the Reset button and getting the hell out of it has had considerable attraction. But Alice has the balls to do it.

Back in What Happens at Christmas…, Holly finds herself having to sort through the contents of her dead father’s house. No easy task, especially when she hasn’t seen or heard from him for over twenty years. She has to sift through his belongings and choose what to keep and what to dump. Most unexpectedly, she discovers that one of his possessions is a far from inanimate object. Enter Stirling the Labrador. Now, to some people, having sixty pounds of hungry dog thrust upon you might be daunting. It is for Annie, too, but she gets on with it. When she finds herself taking him for walks in the wilds of Dartmoor in the pitch dark, she grits her teeth and does it. When she wakes up to find the dog doing his best to climb into bed with her, she turfs him off and makes him behave. And when she manages to stick one of her much-loved Jimmy Choo ankle boots into a large pile of horse manure, she doesn’t let that get her down either. She picks herself up, wipes the shoe off, mutters a few well chosen words aimed at all things equine and carries on with her walk.  Like I say, my girls have got balls.
