After Nightfall by A.J. Banner

Beware of friends with secrets…

Imagine your closest friend utterly betraying you. Years later, when she seeks forgiveness, you invite her to your engagement party as a gesture of reconciliation. But seething hostilities rise to the surface, ruining everyone’s evening. After an awful night, your friend’s battered, lifeless body is found at the bottom of a rocky cliff.

Newly engaged Marissa Parlette is living this nightmare. She should be celebrating her upcoming wedding, but she can’t shake the image of her friend lying dead on the beach. Did she fall? Was she pushed? Or did she take a purposeful step into darkness? Desperate for answers, Marissa digs deep into the events of the party. But what she remembers happening after nightfall now carries sinister implications: the ugly sniping, the clandestine meetings, the drunken flirtations. The more she investigates, the more she questions everything she thought she knew about her friends, the man she once trusted, and even herself.

My Thoughts
Psychological suspense at it's finest.  I literally read this in less than 24 hours.  Amazing.
The writing is flawless and pulls you in on each and every page.  The story line had me guessing til the end.  It's not predictable, just enough detail that you actually think you are there and experiencing it with the characters.
After reading this book you will be leery of anyone and everyone from your best friend to your fiance to your neighbor.  How do you know if they are really telling the truth?
This book has betrayal, domestic abuse, murder, tragedy, mental issues and yet I was never lost as to what was happening to whom and when.
I feel I discuss the actual story I will giveaway too much and I want you to enjoy each and every minute.

Bring Me Back by B.A.Paris

A young British couple are driving through France on holiday when they stop for gas. He runs in to pay, she stays in the car. When he returns her car door has been left open, but she's not inside. No one ever sees her again.

Ten years later he's engaged to be married; he's happy, and his past is only a tiny part his life now. Until he comes home from work and finds his new wife-to-be is sitting on their sofa. She's turning something over in her fingers, holding it up to the light. Something that would have no worth to anyone else, something only he and she would know about because his wife is the sister of his missing first love.

As more and more questions are raised, their marriage becomes strained. Has his first love somehow come back to him after all this time? Or is the person who took her playing games with his mind?

My Thoughts
Ms. Paris does not disappoint with this book, I loved it just as much as I loved the other 2! The twists and turns and ups and downs pulled me in each and every page.
The one thing that I love about each and every book of Ms. Paris,  is that she doesn't give you any useless information, she tells it like it is and you can picture each and every sentence.
The premise of the story is that a young couple is on vacation in France and the husband pulls over to use the rest room and he comes back out and his wife is gone.
He goes through years of not knowing and begins to date again.
Weird things begin to happen and he feels as if he's either going crazy and maybe she's still alive?

When Life Gives You Lululemons by Lauren Weisberger

New York Times bestselling author Lauren Weisberger returns with a novel starring one of her favorite characters from The Devil Wears Prada—Emily Charlton, first assistant to Miranda Priestly, now a highly successful image consultant who’s just landed the client of a lifetime.

Welcome to Greenwich, CT, where the lawns and the women are perfectly manicured, the Tito’s and sodas are extra strong, and everyone has something to say about the infamous new neighbor.

Let’s be clear: Emily Charlton, Miranda Priestly’s ex-assistant, does not do the suburbs. She’s working in Hollywood as an image consultant to the stars, but recently, Emily’s lost a few clients. She’s hopeless with social media. The new guard is nipping at her heels. She needs a big opportunity, and she needs it now.

Karolina Hartwell is as A-list as they come. She’s the former face of L’Oreal. A mega-supermodel recognized the world over. And now, the gorgeous wife of the newly elected senator from New York, Graham, who also has his eye on the presidency. It’s all very Kennedy-esque, right down to the public philandering and Karolina’s arrest for a DUI—with a Suburban full of other people’s children.

Miriam is the link between them. Until recently she was a partner at one of Manhattan’s most prestigious law firms. But when Miriam moves to Greenwich and takes time off to spend with her children, she never could have predicted that being stay-at-home mom in an uber-wealthy town could have more pitfalls than a stressful legal career.

Emily, Karolina, and Miriam make an unlikely trio, but they desperately need each other. Together, they’ll navigate the social landmines of life in America’s favorite suburb on steroids, revealing the truths—and the lies—that simmer just below the glittering surface. With her signature biting style, Lauren Weisberger offers a dazzling look into another sexy, over-the-top world, where nothing is as it appears.

My Thoughts
Amazing!  Loved it!  Can't say enough great things!  I won't lie, I am a HUGE Devil Wears Prada fan and when I heard about this book I was dying to read it!  When my wish was granted I stopped everything and read it morning, noon and night.
Emily is nasty, mean and I LOVE it!  She tells it like it is and she doesn't care if she makes you cry.  She'll just tell you to toughen up.  HAHA
In this book we meet Karolina and Miriam and learn about their issues and they all start to meld together in this mean girls version of Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (minus the jeans of course that Emily would HATE!)
Emily's craziness comes in handy and we even have a little pop in of Miranda as well.  I was in seventh heaven for sure.
There is so much dramas - DUI's, pregnancy, infertility, cheating, love, scandal and so much more. Lauren does not disappoint in this newest tale in the Devil Wears Prada series! (You know it's amazing when you can HEAR Emily's voice as you read her character)

Lauren Weisberger

About Lauren
Lauren Weisberger was born March 28, 1977, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, a locale recently made even more chic, if possible, by The Office. She was joined four years later by sister Dana, a.k.a. The Family Favorite, and moved to Allentown, Pennsylvania, at age eleven. At Parkland High School, Lauren participated in all sorts of projects, activities, and organizations for the sole purpose of padding her college application, although she did genuinely enjoy playing varsity tennis (especially when the girl who should have played first singles incurred a season-ending injury and Lauren had no choice but to step in for the team).

Once matriculated at Cornell University, all civic-minded extracurriculars fell by the wayside. There, she focused her energy on securing a steady stream of fake IDs and dating boys from the right fraternities. After graduating in 1999 with a BA in English, Lauren moved home for the summer to save money and then traveled all over Europe, Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Thailand, India, Nepal, and Hong Kong. She carried a single small backpack and stayed in questionable places, further enriching her authentic cultural experiences by eating only Nutella and drinking Coca-Cola Light.

Lauren's first job after returning to the U.S. and moving to Manhattan was the Assistant to the Editor-in-Chief of Vogue, Anna Wintour. Lauren became proficient in the language of stilettos and Starbucks before moving to Departures magazine, where she wrote 100-word reviews by day and took writing classes at night. The Devil Wears Prada, begun at the Writer's Voice, was published in April 2003, and spent six months on The New York Times Bestseller List. It was sold in thirty-one foreign countries and made into a major motion picture by Fox 2000 starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway. Lauren has a half-second cameo in the film that even she is hard-pressed to locate after several viewings. Her second novel, Everyone Worth Knowing, was published in October 2005 and is also a New York Times Bestseller.

Release Day Post/Giveaway: Somebody's Daughter by Rochelle B. Weinstein

A personal piece by Rochelle Weinstein:

Let’s Use Empathy and Kindness. Not Judgment and Ridicule.

Remembering my childhood in Miami, I recall passing a private note to my middle school best friend detailing my latest crush. As I slipped it across the floor, a classmate intercepted the note, reading my private musings with a cheeky grin on his face. My loyal friend grabbed the note from his hand, quickly ripping it into shreds. The secret was gone, the evidence contained. I could live with the glare of one classmate. An abstract confession left to billow in the breeze.

Not so for today’s youth. Flimsy notes are obsolete, and intimate details are shared on digital devices, powerful carriers of destruction. And the worst part? The oversharing of explicit content is not regulated or monitored. What would our childhoods look like in the age of digital media? A confession no longer crumbled in the trash, but widespread amongst so-called friends and strangers. Whether it be a stolen kiss, an experimentation in sexuality, or a private conversation, today’s youth are using their phones and computers as a stream of consciousness, sharing detailed accounts of their lives for all the world to see. And while the ease of social media makes spontaneous sharing both possible and accessible, these freedoms can come with a price.

In my latest novel, Somebody’s Daughter, we see the far-reaching effects of social media sharing gone wrong. As parents, we believe it will never happen to our children. We’re doing the best we can with the best of intentions, careful to pass down valuable life lessons, but the reality is this: it can happen to any of us. Understanding the dynamic facing today’s teens requires returning to our childhoods and understanding our own history. Imagine that moment in time you drank too much, how you hooked up with a boy you thought you loved and trusted, the cringe-worthy days when you didn’t quite fit into your PE shorts. Now imagine the evidence being shared with your entire school, the eyes you must face each morning in what is supposed to be a safe, nurturing environment.  Or worse, your private, personal moment being shared with millions of people on the Internet. Hurts, right? Humiliating? Guaranteed.

The impetus for writing Somebody’s Daughter came to me for several reasons. The obvious was to shed light on the growing epidemic of suggestive online sharing and how technology is a vehicle for bullying. But there was something more to this story that tugged deep inside my heart. As I’ve raised twin sons (now 18), I’ve witnessed how scandalous stories ripe with spectacle shoot through our communities inviting criticism and ridicule. I’ve been guilty of the naive “It would never happen to my child” attitude and quietly judged parents for their child’s mistakes. I wrote Somebody’s Daughter to illustrate my and others’ complete lack of compassion for a compulsive habit that none of us truly understand. As adults, we didn’t grow up with this level of scrutiny, and children and teens are too young to understand the dangers and repercussions. Kids mess up, they make mistakes, and unfortunately, the first ones to point fingers and judge are the people closest to them—the tribes that are supposed to hold their hands and lift them up.

Now imagine again your indiscretions at twelve or thirteen being captured on the Internet, your innocent conversations, your private musings. Imagine being powerless to stop its reach, as though there’s a monster lurking around every corner waiting to pounce.  Imagine the helplessness, the humility, the powerlessness. I’ve often stated that social media’s greatest strengths are its greatest weaknesses. With accessibility comes lack of privacy. With community comes overexposure. With rapid-fire technology comes no take backs.

No one is immune to the dangers associated with online oversharing. As parents, we do all we can to ensure our children heed our lessons, but we won’t always be able to save them. If the unfortunate occurs, let’s all try to be more compassionate and understanding. It could’ve been you at fourteen. Your grand mishap on display for all to see. Wouldn’t you want those around you to be a little kinder?

Rochelle's amazing new book, Somebody's Daughter releases TODAY!
I highly recommend it to all, especially those with children.

Single State of Mind by Andi Dorfman

Andi Dorfman, breakout star of ABC’s The Bachelorette and New York Times bestselling author of It’s Not Okay, returns with this new collection of her adventures as a still-single gal surviving and thriving in New York City.

Sharing moments like finding her first New York apartment (the front door broke so she had to use the fire escape), her first dates on “celebrity Tinder” and finally, watching her ex-fiancé propose to another woman on Bachelor in Paradise, Andi Dorfman doesn’t shy away from pulling back the curtain on the life of a reality star who’s returned to reality.

Dorfman’s supremely relatable personality has inspired incredible devotion from her fans, who follow her every move on social media. Filled with a mix of romantic mishaps, city adventures, and, of course, plenty of insider Bachelor details, Andi’s new book is Sex and the City for the reality TV generation.

My Thoughts
First of all, I love watching the Bachelor franchise (for the most part).  There are a few season's I've skipped but it's so addicting!  I feel I may invest a little too much time and emotion into what happens each and every week.
Now, one thing I have noticed is that the girls on the series do not get a fair shake in comparison to the guys.  They are both on their for the same reason, doing the same sort of things but yet the girls are looked like as sluts so to speak and the guys are looked at as princes.  What's with the double standard?
Which leads me to this book by Andi Dorfman.  Does she talk about guys she's hooked up with?  Yes.  Does she have fun with girlfriend's and go to bars?  Yes.  Now look at the reviews for this book - they slam her (women do) about sleeping around and getting drunk.  First of all guys do it all the time but it's rarely talked about and second they act like she does this all the time.  Come on now?
Lastly, this is a memoir about a reality tv celebrity, did you think it was going to be the next amazing novel of the century?  It's meant to be fun, document her story and make you laugh.  RELAX people!!!

My body stiffens as we lock eyes. His smile slowly slips off his face when he realizes my aggravated glare isn’t going anywhere. His brown eyes dart to my bags and he gestures at them. “Do you want some help with your bags?”

“Don’t touch them.” There’s nothing cordial about my tone and I watch Declan sigh slowly before looking back at me.

“Look, Jules, I know this is—”

“Don’t call me that. Only my friends call me Jules,” I declare.

He doesn’t need to know I don’t have any.

His shoulders slump as he scratches the back of his neck, “fine. I just thought your suitcase may be heavy and you may not be able to lift it into the back of the Jeep.”

I let out a snarky laugh. “I don’t need your help, with my suitcase, or with anything. So you can get back into your mountain wagon and be on your way.” I swat at him as I walk back to my bags.

He frowns at me. “You don’t want a ride to the Lodge?”

I whisper to myself, as I reach my bags. “What I want is your guts splattered on the side of the asphalt...”

            “What?”

“Nothing. Go away, I don’t need your help. Ever.”

“Julie, it’s a good thirty minute walk up the mountain.”

“Maybe for you,” I huff with a laugh as I reach into my open duffle bag and take out my hat. “I see you’ve let yourself get a bit pudgy. I, on the other hand am in perfect shape. As you can see.” I put my hat over my head. “I run marathons now. Even triathlons. This is nothing to me. This is light, tranquil walk.”

How is he going to know I exercise once a month, if that?

I zip up my duffle bag and pull the strap over my shoulder. I stand up and shove the bag behind me as I reach down for the handle to my suitcase. He looks amused, and it sends an angry ping throughout my body. “Now if you excuse me, I’ll be on my way.”

He takes a step towards me. “Don’t be insane. Just get into the jeep. We don’t have to talk to each other.”

I spin on my heel and give him my back. “I don’t speak traitor.”

“You're going to walk all the way up there with those boots?” he calls to me.

I lift my head and pick up my pace. “I said, I don’t speak traitor!”

My scream rings around the forest.

            That’ll show him.

Four years later, Julie’s life is far from brag-able. Living with her sister and scraping by doing D-list gigs, Julie is given an opportunity to fix her pathetic life. The only catch? Spending a week on camera with the people who destroyed her life.

I stare at the massive cardboard box leaning against my office wall. Evie bought a bookcase at IKEA last month because her collection of art deco books is overflowing into my office, but she hasn’t gotten around to assembling it yet. It’s not a good look for someone who’s supposed to project a clutter-free image. “When are you going to build your bookcase?” I walk over to her desk and sit in the closest chair. “I almost tripped on it earlier.” Falling flat on my face would have surely made Emma’s article more interesting, but I can’t afford an injury right now.
“I think it’s so cute that your mother calls you Tilly,” Evie says, deflecting my question like a pro. “Are you ever going to let me call you Tilly?”
“Not a chance.” Evie and I have had this conversation before, and I know she’s just trying to distract me as I dial my mother’s number for the twentieth time in five minutes. “Why won’t this woman get call waiting?” I ask the heavens when I’m greeted with an aggravating busy signal yet again. I end the call with an angry jab of my finger and a grunt.
Evie fans out a rainbow of paint swatches on the table in front of her. “I’m sure everything is going to be okay.” She gives me a reassuring smile.
I wish I lived in Evie’s world where everything is sunshine and rainbows and you throw caution to the wind like it’s confetti at a wedding. It’s a miracle we’re friends. I’m a realist who knows that things can change in the blink of an eye and disaster is only a phone call away. “You can’t be sure of that,” I say, picking up a swatch of orange paint so bright I’m afraid it might be burning my retinas. “Are you redecorating a color-blind person’s living room? Who would voluntarily put this hideous shade on their walls?” I put the swatch down and try my parents’ number again with no success. Can you still call the operator to make sure someone’s phone is working? Do operators still exist?
“Who else? Mrs. Murray,” Evie says calmly, and it takes me a few seconds to connect the dots.
“Ah, the client who’s going to put your unborn children through college strikes again?”
Evie nods. “Yup. Apparently, the midnight sky theme that she requested for her living room is too dark and I should have known better. So now it’s all about the sunshine orange daydream, whatever that means.”
Even the most cheerful and optimistic person has something that makes them want to hide under the covers—and for Evie that something is Mrs. Murray, a notoriously difficult client who has our office’s number on speed dial.
“I’m so jealous you’re getting featured in a newspaper,” Evie says wistfully. “It’s so exciting, don’t you think?”
I make a face. “It’s the Messina Messenger, Evie. Not the New York Times. A grand total of five people will read it and then it’s going to line Mrs. Merchant’s bird cages.” Truth be told, if my face was going to be splashed across the pages of the New York Times, I wouldn’t be half as nervous. I’m fine with a million strangers reading about me, but the fact that people I grew up with are going to read it makes me want to lose my morning bagel.

As a professional organizer in New York City, Matilda Hart wages war against chaos and clutter on a daily basis for her clients—and she vows to never let it invade her own well-ordered world.

She reluctantly finds herself back in the tiny hometown she fled a lifetime ago—determined to lay low and avoid running into anyone she used to know. So why is she reconnecting with her former best friend and putting up with the bridezilla antics of Amber, her high school nemesis?
When Matilda is tasked with keeping the bride-to-be’s heartbroken ex away from the ceremony, she discovers she has history with the man who’s trying to sabotage the wedding. Matilda quickly realizes that teaming up with cute and quirky—but hopelessly devoted—Silas Flynn could be mutually beneficial. He needs help wooing the woman he considers the love of his life and Matilda can't pass up the chance to finally get back at the meanest of the mean girls by assisting Silas in his attempts to disrupt her wedding.
Will everything go according to plan for this mismatched pair? Or will working so closely together make uptight Matilda and laid-back Silas lose sight of their common goal?
One thing's for sure—things are about to get messy.

My Thoughts
I am speechless after reading this book.
This book is amazing yet gut wrenching, sad yet uplifting.  It's powerful and tells a story that every parent of teenagers must read.
This is hands down my top book of 2018.  Why?  Because it's a book that needed to be written and is a testament to the times that our children are growing up in.  The digital age is terrifying and never ending and we all need to be aware.
This truly could be somebody's daughter/son, anyone of us.  Every teen has the risk of this type of event changing their lives forever.  No one is immune.
When I was reading, I thought of my daughter and what I would do if this happened to my family?  What would I do?  How would I react?
Zoe show's courage wise beyond her years but what her parents need to try and teach is forgiveness.  But how can they teach forgiveness if they themselves are unable to forgive?
I recommend and will recommend this book to everyone I know.
