Review: Killing Me Softly by Kathryn Biel

SUMMARY
Sadie Perkins has a sixth sense about things—especially people dying. Her clairvoyance has never bothered her until she starts to believe that her visions are causing the deaths of those around her. After her latest relationship ends ... badly ... Sadie swears off love for good. While searching for an uncomplicated life, Sadie finds her hands full not only with a home renovation project but with defending herself against suspicion of murder. There's a fine line between predicting someone's death and causing it. Has Sadie finally crossed that line?
Enter contractor Max Schultz, who is not only good at working on houses, but he's good at working on Sadie too. Much to Max's dismay, as he's trying to win Sadie's heart, he finds Sadie's first love, Henry Fitzsimmons, is back in the picture, snooping around.
Sadie doesn't know which way to turn or who to trust, including herself. Can Sadie clear her name and open her heart all at the same time?

MY REVIEW
What a roller coaster ride for Sadie Perkins!  That poor girl!  If I were her I think I would have had a nervous breakdown by the middle of the book!
This book sucked me in right from the get go!
Let me say I never used to believe in mediums, but then I started watching Long Island Medium and I was hooked!
As for Sadie, she has dreams of what is to come and then it happens.  The downside of this ability is the fact that Sadie thinks she is causing these people's death's and unfortunate mishaps!  Talk about stress for the poor girl!
Her luck seems to be turning around, she's going on a weekend getaway with her boyfriend Rob.  Once they arrive it goes down hill...not only does he make her drive separately to meet him there (who does that?) then while there, there is an incident with a bat.  Yes you read that correctly, a bat!
Not only does he freak out, he runs from the room, packs his things and tells her he's heading home.  Now mind you, he knows she has been drinking and can't driver herself so he tells her that she can stay and leave tomorrow morning when she is able to drive.  Did that just happen?  He didn't even offer to bring her with him?
The story begins to unfold in so many crazy directions...first there is a car accident...then there is a pregnancy, then a love affair begins, an old first crush returns, followed by a disappearance...
Your mind will be going in so many directions, you won't know who to believe, who really did what and where the story is going to do next!
Sit back and enjoy this wild and crazy turn of events in Sadie's life!

WINE SELECTION
To pair with this tale of crazy and uncertainty, I would enjoy a bottle of Black Sheep Dark Continen!
MY RATING
I would rate this amazing tale of death, lies and clairvoyance 5 glasses of wine!  You never know what will happen around the next corner and it will pull you in till the very end!

Her new co-workers are uninspiring, to say the least, and the problems that people are submitting to the Gazette are much weightier than what she was expecting.

Losing faith in herself, Elinor considers cutting her losses and moving on. However, the attention of hot young reporter Nile might be enough to get her past her chilly start in Snowflake Valley, and back to seeing its charm once again.

Review - Peri in Progress by Cat Lavoie

SUMMARY
You know what they say about best-laid plans…

After a disastrous thirty-first birthday party where she gets stood-up by a man she isn’t supposed to be dating, Peri McKenna decides it’s time to change what hasn’t been working—which is pretty much everything. Her love life is going nowhere fast, she’s bored to tears by a job that makes her the office pariah, and the lifelong junk food addiction that used to be somewhat quirky is now positively problematic. To top it all off, her newly-purchased home is falling apart and wishful thinking hasn’t done much to fix the leaky roof.

It’s time be an adult now that she’s officially ‘thirty-something.’
But when the first step of Peri’s self-improvement plan backfires, she starts to wonder if change might be overrated.

Enter Milo Preston, an up-and-coming chef who’s in town to take over a local restaurant. When Peri and Milo begin working together, she finds it hard to ignore his easy charm and captivating emerald-green eyes. Since Milo is her best friend’s estranged brother, Peri has to keep reminding herself that he is completely off-limits. As they grow closer, Milo introduces Peri to new foods, the joy (and pain) of jogging, and makes her think her luck might finally be turning.

But when the past catches up with them, Peri finds herself back at square one. Will she be able to sort herself out—or will the roof cave in on her once and for all?

MY REVIEW

Boy this story was filled with ups and downs!  One minute I was filled with joy and the next I was in shock and a little sad to say the least.
Peri McKenna has not had the greatest of life experiences as of lately and she is starting to think she really needs to re-evaluate her life and what is important her.
Peri is secretly seeing this boy names Declan (let me just say that nothing good comes from seeing someone in secret!) and he basically denied being involved when she decided it was time to bring it out in the open..She is in shock....and to make matters worse she was suspended from her job!
This is it she decides, the sign she needs to know she needs to take her life in a new direction...a new Peri!

Junk food...a thing of the past (maybe), a new job to keep her mind off her old life and dare I say a new man?  Not sure that is a great NEW plan, but hay what does she have to lose?

Let me just say Milo is amazing, to die for really, but is he too good to be true?  I will not give away any of the sexy details, you must read and find out for yourselves!  Be prepared the scream at your book when things don't go the way you hoped they would!

WINE SELECTION

I would pair this fun read with FUNF Riesling!  Yummy and refreshing!

MY RATING

I rate this sassy and sexy read, 5 wine glasses!  It was enticing from beginning to end and had some turns that I least expected!

Review - Never Kiss a Man in a Christmas Sweater by Debbie Johnson

SUMMARY
You’ve seen Mark Darcy in the reindeer jumper his mother gave him, now meet Marco Cavelli in this season’s Christmas knit!
For single mum Maggie, Christmas has always been a family occasion – her daughter Ellen filling the house with her bubbly warmth and mistletoe, her dad Paddy having one too many festive tipples, and the traditional family Christmas tree looking like a drunken elf vomited a rainbow all over it.
But this year, with both Ellen and Paddy away for the holidays, Maggie’s facing a truly blue Christmas – alone with nothing but a bottle of Baileys and an M&S turkey dinner.
Until walking the snowy streets of Oxford, Marco Cavelli quite literally crashes into her life – and, complete with broken leg, becomes her unexpected houseguest. All dreamy brown eyes and 6’5” of gorgeousness, the man is hotter and more delicious than a freshly baked mince pie.
Though Maggie always thought it’s a truth universally acknowledged that you never kiss a man in a Christmas jumper?

MY REVIEW
What a delightful holiday read this season!  So much fun!
Men and holiday sweaters, what an interesting combination...Add a cute pair of quirky glasses and HOTNESS!
Marco Cavelli seems like pretty good eye candy, with or without the Christmas sweater, but I bet it adds to his charm!
Maggie on the other hand, I totally feel for her!  I am a single mom and it's not easy, then trying to mix in the idea of dating, who has time for that?
Ellen has such a fun and care free lifestyle, props to Maggie for raising her and giving her this ability!
Then one day, while out for a ride, their worlds all come crashing down, or did they?
Marco and Maggie are on their way to the hospital, and that's when their world's all become one!
Marco will be laid up for a bit, and who better to take care of him, then the girl he literally ran into with his bike!
Craziness ensues and maybe a little Christmas magic?  Is love in the air?  Or will this whole plan come crashing down in front of them?
I can't give away all the fun details, but I can say that this holiday read is one for the books and you won't be able to put it down!
Sit back, grab a glass of wine and enjoy the ride!

WINE SELECTION
I am going to pair this fun holiday tale, with a tasty white wine, Côtes de Gascogne -
MY RATING
I give this fun holiday read 5 wine glasses, it was fun and exciting from beginning to end!

Review: Married By Midnight by Talli Roland

SUMMARY
Christmas is coming . . . and so is the biggest day of Kate’s life.

While choosing a vintage dress for her Christmas Eve wedding, Kate finds a cryptic note pinned to the inside of a 1930s gown. As doubts about her own ceremony loom, Kate is determined to track down the dress’ owner and determine what became of her – and the marriage.

Will Kate find the answers she’s seeking to propel her down the aisle, or will her discovery prompt her to call off the wedding for good?

MY REVIEW
Such a fun Holiday read!  I read this while my daughter was getting her braces and it put a smile on my face the whole time!
Christmas is in the air and so is love for her fiance, Tim, or is it?
Kate has been told, by her mother, that her and Tim are the perfect fit...in the stars that is...Kate is starting to wonder though, is that enough to build a marriage on?
He barely pays attention to her, his place is a MESS and she doesn't seem to have that FEELING you get when you know that you are marrying THE ONE.
She is bound to prove to everyone, mostly herself, that Tim is the one...
The they go dress shopping and she falls IN LOVE with this vintage 1930's dress that she can't live without!
When she gets the dress home, she notice's a note inside...is it from the previous owner?
Could finding the previous owner give Kate the luck she needs, to know that her wedding to Tim is meant to be?
But if Tim were truly the man of her dreams, would she need this hope in the first place?
Enjoy this magical holiday ride into this gorgeous dress and find out what happens to Kate this holiday season before the clock strikes midnight!

WINE SELECTION
For this fun, festive holiday read, I am going to pair it with Red Cat Sangria!  Yum with a kick!
MY RATING
I was enchanted with the story of the dress from beginning to end, I give this holiday read 5 wine glasses and I bet you will as well!

BLOG TOUR STOP: Giveaway & Excerpt from Christmas Confessions & Cocktails by Vicki Lesage

EXCERPT
“Christmas is a few days away!” I said, giddy with excitement. “What kind of cookies do you want to leave out for Santa?”
Mika stared back at me blankly.
“You know... how we leave out milk and cookies for Santa Claus on Christmas Eve?”
Still no clue.
“I know Leo is a bit young but it’s an excuse for us to eat cookies!”
“Sorry,” he said, snapping out of it. “I was confused. In France we leave out carrots and water. For the reindeer.”
No wonder the French are so skinny.
If that was the tradition in the U.S., not only would we have less of an obesity problem, but I might not have ever figured out Santa wasn’t real.
Each Christmas, Stephen and I would faithfully set out cookies and milk, selecting different treats each year so that Santa wouldn’t get bored.
“Should we give him Oreos or Pitter Patters?” I asked my four-year-old brother one holiday season.
He pondered the question with the seriousness it deserved. “We got Oreos last year. What about Chips Ahoy? They’re the yummiest!”
“Yeah! Mommy, can you please buy Chips Ahoy for Santa?” I asked.
“Sure, honey.”
Except she didn’t. ’Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a Chips Ahoy was in sight, nor Nestle Tollhouse.
“Mommy, what’s this?” I asked, eyeing the plate of Fig Newtons set out next to a glass of water.
“I thought Santa might want something different this year. He’ll like it, you’ll see.”
Nobody liked Fig Newtons except Mom. And water? Who preferred water with cookies when you had the choice of milk? Except for Mom.
Wait a minute...
At six years old, I wasn’t 100% positive about my assumption. Plus, I didn’t want to sabotage my chance of getting gifts if there really was a Santa Claus. I decided to play along, just to be safe.
The next morning, bountiful presents were packed under the Christmas tree. Whew, Santa had come after all.
But then I discovered a second clue. “Mommy, Santa Claus has the same handwriting as you,” I said, pointing to a gift tag.
“What a coincidence!”
“And he liked Fig Newtons and water, just like you.”
“Well isn’t that funny!”
“Yes, that is funny.” I was on to her but didn’t want to ruin Stephen’s fun.
But he was on to her, too. “Wait a minute, Mommy. Are YOU Santa Claus?”
She was caught red-handed.
If only we had set out carrots and water for the “reindeer,” we kids would have never been the wiser. Because if there’s one thing Mom likes more than Fig Newtons (and one thing even more boring than Fig Newtons), it’s carrot sticks.

BLOG TOUR: Giveaway & Guest Post and Review by Vicki Lesage, author of Christmas Confessions & Cocktails

SUMMARY
Party girl Vicki tells it like it us, from her crazy Christmases growing up in the Midwest (book auction, anyone?) to her even crazier holidays in her new home of Paris (like a marathon 8-hour meal sitting on a stool). Bizarre gifts, weird food, and holiday travel disasters are just some of tales you'll chuckle at in this collection.

This Christmas-themed memoir features 25 funny and heartwarming essays, all with a tenuous tie to Christmas, and pairs each with a delicious drink recipe. So grab your martini shaker and get ready for some great cocktails and some hearty laughs this holiday season!

MY REVIEW
What a fun holiday read!  I LOVE how Vicki doesn't sugar coat reality, she tells it like she sees it and experiences it!
Some of my favorite pieces that she relives for us are downright hilarious!
The secret Santa exchange makes me want to set one up between me and my friends and family just to see what craziness takes place!  (Let me just add I will take a Christmas Cosmo right now please, I'm sure work won't mind, right?  Tis' the season!)
Pet shopping 101, how did I forget to buy a Christmas present for our kitten Lila, thank you Vicki for reminding me!
I'm sorry, no disrespect to the name Santa Claus, but I LOVE the name Pere Noel!  It sounds so festive and merry!
I am personally going to be starting a gift stock pile!  I get so many gifts from family and friends, that honestly I will never use and what better to save money and give a great gift!  Why stuff it in the back of my cramped closet (space is at a premium), why not pass it on to someone else?  I am all for it!
Fortune Cookies have always made me wonder "What are they truly trying to say?" and Vicki has now gave them a great purpose in life...When reading it add (In bed at the end of the statement)...Here's a great example: "Advice, when most needed, is least heeded." (In bed.) HAHA I love it!  I will be doing this from now on!
The fun continues - from bedtime antics to international travel with a baby!  I will not spoil all the fun, you have to read and experience the fun for yourself!

DRINK SELECTION
I am stealing one of Vicki's yummy recipes - Christmas Cosmo!

MY RATING

I loved this great Christmas read from Christmas Cosmo's to Tequila Tonic's!  I give it 5 glasses of wine all the way - I could not stop!

GUEST POST
3… 2… 1… Zzzzzzzz

Vicki Lesage

I used to be a party girl. I think. I’m having a hard time remembering. And not from blacking out. No, these days I’m in a kid-induced sleep-deprived zombie state. I’m lucky if I walk out the door for work in the morning with shoes on. Bonus points if they match.

Between my sweet, angelic 18-month-old noisemaker who seems to have a perpetually sniffly nose and my sweet, angelic 3-year-old who seems to have a perpetual cough, my husband and I don’t get much sleep. Oh, did I mention our kids share a room with us? Yeah, because while Paris has a lot of great things to offer,  large and affordable apartments aren’t one of them.

So while I love living in the City of Light, I admit I might love it a little more if I could actually get a little shut-eye.

Which means this New Year’s Eve I’m not even gonna try to stay up until midnight. As soon as the kids are in bed, I’ll let myself enjoy one or two cocktails, but then it’s lights out. Goodbye Party Girl, hello several consecutive hours of sleep. Hopefully.

And since I’ll be hitting the hay a bit early, I plan to drink something festive but not too alcoholic. Like this tasty Aperol Spritz. Cheers!

Aperol Spritz

3 oz. Prosecco

2 oz. Aperol orange liqueur

1 oz. soda water

orange slice for garnish

1. Fill a large wine glass 1/3 full with ice.

2. Pour in Prosecco, then Aperol, then soda water.

3. Garnish with an orange and drink before the clock strikes midnight.
