Review - A Mother's Day by Kaira Rouda

BLURB
AN ORIGINAL SHORT STORY
FROM THE CELEBRATED AUTHOR OF
THE BESTSELLING NOVEL HERE, HOME, HOPE ....

Three mothers. Three sons. One day that changes them all forever.

MY REVIEW
What a gripping and amazing testimony to motherhood and the courage it takes to be who we are.  One day a tragic event strikes and it will forever connect three mothers in a way that they never thought possible.
They will probably never meet but their bond can't be broken.
One mother is driving with her son, having a day off from school to just spend time together...
Another mother is trying to get her life back on track after having a baby and struggling with postpartum...
The last mother has a son with Asperger's and she is so happy that his life is starting to normalize and he's doing great in high school and headed to college...then she gets a phone call and tragedy strikes...
How will these mothers cope?  How will they know what to say to their children to make them understand?
Such a powerful story that I advise every woman to read...it's an amazing depiction of what motherhood truly is...

DRINK SELECTION
For my drink selection, I chose a cup of tea for a mother who would like to relax and unwind after a tough day.
RATING
I rate this amazing testimony to motherhood five wine glasses and I hope that each and every book enthusiast I know will take the time and read this story.

Review - Dream Come True (Ice Cream Dreams, Book 1) By Gina Calanni

BLURB
The first enchanting novel in Gina Calanni’s Ice Cream Dreams series. Perfect for fans of Jill Shalvis, Robyn Carr and Susan Mallery.
If you had the chance to change your life, what would you do?
Sahara Smith is leaving her Texas trailer-park upbringing in the dust to take up a job at the famous Blue Ribbon Ice Cream Company. All her dreams are finally coming true and she’s determined to let nothing stand in her way.
But on her first day she meets tall, oh-so-sexy Brandon, the kind of guy Sahara knows would never be interested in a girl like her. So why does he seem so intent on getting to know her?
Sahara’s dreams of a better life are finally within her grasp – until she discovers something that could bring the whole lot crashing down around her. But she isn’t giving up that easily, not when destiny is calling…

MY REVIEW
I can't sing enough praises for this first book in Gina's new series, Ice Cream Dreams.  It's the perfect summer read for 2016!
It's a great story of a young girl, Sahara Smith, who is bound and determined to make something of herself.  She gets a college education (or so she thinks), she strives for success at her current job and creates amazing ice cream flavors and pursues her dream job, to create ice cream flavors for Blue Ribbon Ice Cream Company.
It wasn't a easy road to get there, she leaves her mother behind and their relationship is strained to say the least, she embarks on this new journey and has to live with a family friend (or is she) and she falls in love with a boy that she truly thinks is too good to be true (why would he pick her anyway?).
With obstacle after obstacle in her way, Sahara is determined to show that she is somebody and that she can make her way in this world.
Grab a glass (or two) of wine and sit back and enjoy this sweet summer romance.

WINE SELECTION
What goes perfect with ice cream, an amazing dessert wine of course! Moscato it is!
RATING
I can't rave enough about this fun summer read (which is on my Top Ten Summer Reads 2016 list) and it rates 5 glasses hands down!

Release Day Blitz: Been Searching for You by author Nicole Evelina

"Been Searching for You" by Nicole Evelina
**Blurb:
Annabeth is a hopeless romantic who believes in soul mates. In fact, she’s been writing to hers each year on her birthday since she was 16.
Now, at 34, she’s still holding out hope of finding Mr. Right even though he’d be fighting an uphill battle to gain her trust, thanks to a traumatic experience years before that’s left her unable to commit. When Annabeth meets a handsome literature professor named Alex on her 34th birthday, she thinks her quest may finally be at an end. Things don’t quite go as planned, so Annabeth resolves to do everything she can over the next year to find the unknown recipient of her letters. But blind dates, Meetup events and online singles sites have nothing on what fate has in store for her when a co-worker unexpectedly quits and Annabeth finds herself working in close quarters with both Alex and her long ago ex, Nick. Fighting her attraction to one and loathing for the other, Annabeth is forced to face all of her old insecurities while keeping an eye on a scheming frienemy who may derail her hopes and dreams. Written in the tradition of Bridget Jones' Diary, Kim Gruenfelder’s A Total Waste of Makeup, and Melissa Pimental’s Love By The Book, it shows that love on the sweet side can exist for the modern girl, if only she’s willing to trust herself and search hard enough. Been Searching for You was the winner of the 2015 Romance Writers of America Great Expectations and Golden Rose contests.

Review - How to Save a Life by Kristin Harmel

SUMMARY
Groundhog Day meets Grey’s Anatomy in this heartfelt novella with a hint of magic from the internationally bestselling author of The Sweetness of Forgetting and The Life Intended, in which a woman with only a short time to live discovers she can repeat the same day over and over until her life feels complete.

When a pediatric oncology nurse receives a devastating prognosis—she has just weeks left to live—she finds unexpected comfort from a patient. Her young friend shares a life- and death-changing secret: it is possible to live the same day over and over again until she’s experienced a truly full life. Thus begins a heartbreaking and joyful journey of love, friendship, and self-discovery, as the brave nurse only truly learns how to live in the face of death. Kristin Harmel, whose work has been called “immersive and evocative” (Publishers Weekly), “absorbing…well-paced and warmhearted” (Kirkus Reviews), and “absolutely enthralling” (Fresh Fiction), infuses her poignant, uplifting novella with a dash of magic and a hefty dose of heart.

MY REVIEW
What an amazingly heartfelt, sad and inspirational tale of living life to the fullest.  If you could know when your day was going to come, when your life would end, would you want to know?  After reading Jill's story, I think I would.  I want want to know that I lived everyday to the fullest and accomplished what I could before I left earth.
Jill is an oncology nurse at a children's hospital.  She hasn't been feeling well for a few months now, headaches, dizziness, nothing that she couldn't handle, but decides it's time to see a specialist and make sure that it's nothing too serious.  And then she gets the news that she wasn't expecting...How could this be?  She was working?  Feeling OK most of the time...She needs to get a second opinion even though she already knows the answer.
Jill still has some many things she wanted to do with the rest of her life - make amends with her father, fall in love, have a family, those were the most important.  But how will that happen in such a short space of time?
You will fall in love with this book from beginning to end, you will be sad through out and you will realize that you need to make the most of the time that you have because you never know when your last day will come, or will you?
Sit back and enjoy this inspirational tale (and a little bit of magic) and expect to shed a few tears along the way.

WINE SELECTION
As I am reading about Jill's thought provoking journey, I was enjoying a nice glass (or two) of Chardonnay.

RATING
I can't recommend this book enough, 5 wine glasses for sure!  I can't wait to hear what you think!

Blog Tour: Guest Post with Alison Brodie, author of The Double

THE DOUBLE – Alison Brodie – Questions and Answers

Question:  Would you rather bathe in honey or chocolate sauce?
Answer:  Chocolate sauce.  Then I’m more likely to get some hunk to lick it off.

Question:  Which Rolling Stone would you be?
Answer:  Any.  They all seem like they’ll live forever plus they’ve all got great hips and 26 inch waists.

Question:  Should man conquer space?
Answer:  Yes please.  I am already bulging out of 3 wardrobes.

Question:  What’s your most valuable piece of writing kit?
Answer:  My brain.

Question:  What makes you happy?
Answer:  A mojito, a moussaka and a good man – or a bad man – depending on how much happiness I can handle.

Question:  Would you rather be eaten by a shark or piranha?
Answer:  A shark.  One gulp and I’d be gone.

Question:  If you weren’t writing, what would you choose to do?
Answer:  I would choose to hold up a bar with a sexy cowboy.  (I don’t mean ‘hold up’ - I mean ‘lean on it’ … seductively, of course)

Question:  Which of your novels would you like to be in?
Answer:  The Double.  I fancy myself lounging about on the sumptuous deck of a billion-dollar yacht wearing diamonds, opera gloves and satin gowns while issuing commands through a megaphone to my staff of uniformed stewards.

Question:  What’s your top tip to other writers?
Answer:  Think about how some of the world’s best-known novels were rejected.  Believe in yourself.

Question:  What is your favorite food?
Answer:  Anything that hasn’t got a snail in it.

Question:  Who do you sleep with?
Answer:  About 150 characters.

Question:  What is your next book about?

Question:  Why does Miss Prim and Proper end up on a freight train with a stolen stash of three million dollars, a gun and a bottle of Wild Turkey.  And why did she shoot Mr Right?
Answer:  You’ll have to read the book. J

My Top Ten Summer Reading Picks for 2016!

Hello friends and fellow book addicts!  My 1 year Blogiversary is fast approaching (June 1st) and I thought why not put together an AMAZING Summer Must Read List with all my favorite books that I think ya'll should read!  Now is there any rhyme or reason to my list, nope!  These are books that I LOVE and that's it!  Enjoy!  xx

Dear Carolina was praised as “Southern fiction at its best.”* Now author Kristy Woodson Harvey presents a new novel about what it really means to tell the truth . . .

After sixty years of marriage and five daughters, Lynn “Lovey” White knows that all of us, from time to time, need to use our little white lies.

Her granddaughter, Annabelle, on the other hand, is as truthful as they come. She always does the right thing—that is, until she dumps her hedge fund manager fiancé and marries a musician she has known for three days. After all, her grandparents, who fell in love at first sight, have shared a lifetime of happiness, even through her grandfather’s declining health.

But when Annabelle’s world starts to collapse around her, she discovers that nothing about her picture-perfect family is as it seems. And Lovey has to decide whether one more lie will make or break the ones she loves . . .

An engrossing and thought provoking novel that examines the intricacies of marriage, friendship, and the power of unexpected connections…

Annabel Ford has everything under control, devoting her time to her twin five-year-old boys and to keeping her household running seamlessly. So when her husband of a decade announces that he’s leaving her, without warning, she’s blindsided. And suddenly her world begins to unravel.

Single mother Piper Whitley has always done her best to balance it all—raising her daughter Fern by herself and advancing her career as a crime reporter. Only now that she’s finally met the man of her dreams, Fern’s absentee father arrives on the scene and throws everything into a tailspin.

Married to the heir of a thriving media conglomerate, Mackenzie Mead has many reasons to count her blessings. But with an imperious mother-in-law—who’s also her boss—and a husband with whom she can no longer seem to connect, something has to give.

On the surface, these three women may not have much in common. Yet when their lives are thrust together and unlikely friendships are formed—at a time when they all need someone to lean on—Annabel, Piper, and Mackenzie band together to help each navigate their new realities.

All Allie Marshall wants is a fresh start.  But when dark secrets refuse to stay buried, will her chance at a new life be shattered forever?

Convicted of a crime she didn’t commit, Allie watched a decade of her life vanish – time that can never be recovered. Now, out on parole, Allie is determined to clear her name, rebuild her life, and reconnect with the daughter she barely knows.

But Allie’s return home shatters the quaint, coastal community of Brunswick, Georgia. Even her own daughter Caroline, now a teenager, bristles at Allie’s claims of innocence. Refusing defeat, a stronger, smarter Allie launches a battle for the truth, digging deeply into the past even if it threatens her parole status, personal safety, and the already-fragile bond with family.

As her commitment to finding the truth intensifies, what Allie ultimately uncovers is far worse than she imagined. Her own sister has been hiding a dark secret—one that holds the key to Allie’s freedom.

The first enchanting novel in Gina Calanni’s Ice Cream Dreams series. Perfect for fans of Jill Shalvis, Robyn Carr and Susan Mallery. If you had the chance to change your life, what would you do? A young woman
A family secret
A devastating truth that could destroy the man she loves

Many years ago, the Rosetta family’s hard-won dreams of staking their claim in the vineyards of California came to fruition. Now high-spirited, passionate Caterina Rosetta, who has inherited both her mother’s talent for crafting the finest wines and also her indomitable will, wants nothing more than to win her mother’s approval and work at her side. But that can never happen, because Caterina is keeping a secret that could ruin her: a daughter of her own, fathered by the love of her life, who left her without explanation. Just as she feels she has nowhere to turn, Caterina discovers that she has inherited a vineyard in the Tuscan countryside in Italy, from a grandmother she’s never heard of, and she seizes the chance to start a new life for herself and her child.

But the past is not so easily outrun. In the country of her ancestors, Caterina meets the family of the father she never knew, and discovers that her mother is also hiding her own secret—a secret so devastating it threatens the future of everything her family has worked for. As an old murder comes to light, and Caterina uncovers a tragedy that may destroy the man she loves, she realizes her happiness will depend on revealing the truth of her mother’s buried past—if she has the strength to face it.

You’ve Got Mail meets Julie & Julia in the new foodie fiction from the author of Recipe for Disaster.

Top pastry chef Sophie Bernstein and her sommelier fiancé were set to have Chicago’s culinary wedding of the year…until the groom eloped with someone else in a very public debacle, leaving Sophie splashed across the tabloids—fifty grand in debt on her dream wedding and one-hundred percent screwed on her dream life. The icing on the cake was when she lost her job and her home…

Laying low, Sophie moves in with her grandmother, Bubbles. That way, she can keep Bubbles and her sweater-wearing pug company and nurse her broken heart. But when Sophie gets a part-time job at the old-fashioned neighborhood bakery, she finds herself up to her elbows in dough and reluctantly giving a wedding cake customer advice on everything from gift bags to guest accommodations. Before she knows it, she’s an online wedding planner. It’s not mousse and macarons, but it pays the bills. But with the arrival of unexpected personal and professional twists, Sophie wonders if she’s really moving forward—or starting over from scratch...

When a pediatric oncology nurse receives a devastating prognosis—she has just weeks left to live—she finds unexpected comfort from a patient. The hilarious new summer bestseller from Lindsey Kelk, bestselling author of the I Heart series.
Everyone loves a bridesmaid - except Maddie, who’s perpetually asked to be one.
Everyone loves a wedding - except Maddie’s best friend, who’s getting divorced.
And everyone loves the way Maddie’s so happy behind the scenes - except Maddie herself.
One best friend is in wedding countdown while the other heads for marriage meltdown. And as Maddie juggles her best chance at promotion in years with bridezilla texts and late-night counselling sessions, she starts to wonder – is it time to stop being the bridesmaid?

If you could repeat one year of your life, what would you do differently? This heartwarming and hilarious novel from the authors of The Status of All Things and Your Perfect Life features three best friends who get the chance to return to the year they turned forty—the year that altered all of their lives, in ways big and small—and also get the opportunity to change their future.

Jessie loves her son Lucas more than anything, but it tears her up inside that he was conceived in an affair that ended her marriage to a man she still loves, a man who just told her he's getting remarried. This time around, she’s determined to bury the secret of Lucas’ paternity, and to repair the fissures that sent her wandering the first time.

Gabriela regrets that she wasted her most fertile years in hot pursuit of a publishing career. Yes, she’s one of the biggest authors in the world, but maybe what she really wanted to create was a family. With a chance to do it again, she’s focused on convincing her husband, Colin, to give her the baby she desires.

Claire is the only one who has made peace with her past: her twenty-two year old daughter, Emily, is finally on track after the turmoil of adolescence, and she's recently gotten engaged, with the two carat diamond on her finger to prove it. But if she’s being honest, Claire still fantasizes about her own missed opportunities: a chance to bond with her mother before it was too late, and the possibility of preventing her daughter from years of anguish. Plus, there’s the man who got away—the man who may have been her one true love.

But it doesn’t take long for all three women to learn that re-living a life and making different decisions only leads to new problems and consequences—and that the mistakes they made may, in fact, have been the best choices of all…

Getting rich on Wall Street would be a lot more fun if the men would keep their hands off her assets. A whip-smart and funny novel told by a former Wall Street insider who reveals what it’s like for a working woman to balance love, ambition, and family in a world of glamorous excess, outrageous risk-taking, and jaw-dropping sexism.

In 2008, Isabelle—a self-made, thirty-something Wall Street star—appears to have it all: an Upper West Side apartment, three healthy children, a handsome husband, and a high-powered job. But her reality is something else. Her trading desk work environment resembles a 1980s frat party, her husband feels employment is beneath him, and the bulk of childcare and homecare still falls in Belle’s already full lap.

Enter Henry, the former college fiancé she never quite got over; now a hedge fund mogul. He becomes her largest client, and Belle gets to see the life she might have had with him. While Henry campaigns to win Belle back, the sexually harassed women in her office take action to improve their working conditions, and recruit a wary Belle into a secret “glass ceiling club” whose goal is to mellow the cowboy banking culture and get equal pay for their work. All along, Belle can sense the financial markets heading toward their soon-to-be historic crash and that something has to give—and when it does, everything is going to change: her marriage, her career, her world, and her need to keep her colleagues’ hands to themselves.
